Replace Damaged Roof Shingles

My Handy Neighbour is proud to offer service to help with your damaged roof shingles.

We will need to access to your roof in order to assess the level of damage.  If the shingles are brittle and falling off you will need to look at a full roof replacement. If the sheet plywood under the shingles and roofing paper is damp but not rotten you just need to replace shingle and access it from the underside.

How My Neighbour Handy Replaces Damaged Roof Shingles

• Loosen the shingles with a small flat crow bar to pull apart the adhesive tabs and roofing nails

  • A good rule of thumb is to remove at least five tabs in the second row above the damaged "3-tab" shingle

  • Pull up enough shingles to reveal the nails of all the damaged shingles that need removed below

• Find the appropriate shingle from your local hardware store

  • If we can’t find the appropriate shingle, we can match it with high end paint from sealant waterproofing product

• Before we install any new shingles we will review the asphalt paper and cover over any damaged areas with a Peel and stick patch

  • If it’s a low slope roof we use a semi-permeable peel and stick membrane

• Secure the loose shingles with roofing nails and use asphalt caulking from your local hardware store to secure the bottom of the shingles in place when nails can’t be reached

  • If we see any cracks or protruding nails on the surface of the shingles we make sure to use asphalt caulking to cover over the damaged area

• This roof shingle patch or replacement can take up to 5 hour depending on the condition of your roofing plywood and the weather
